vmware server trouble 해결

vmware server 버전을 사용할 때, 문제가 생겨 구글링을 통해서 해결했던 적이 있다.

지금(2010년 6월 기준)은 player 버전에서도 이미지를 생성할 수 있는것으로 하는데, 그때 해결 했던 내용들을 정리하고자 한다.

vmserver 2 is a web based system. and works good with a internet connection.

FAQ is for the windows systems - xp , vista , etc maybe windows 7 

A users manual is located at http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vmserver2.pdf ( approx 4MB ) includes other o/s setups 

The system runs with delays - do not race the system. an error will jump up and delay your work. hit refesh to update the data. 

If there is a problem check your network first - this includes network card and drivers, network state, ip addressing etc. 

most problems have been solved just search for the solution it may not be in same wording.

1. Startup problems

Cannot connect to server.

- try http://127.0.0.1:8222/ this will connect to the server. ( securtiy warning and certificate box's will pop up )

User name and password.

- use the same user name and password to login to pc ( password is required on account to login )

2. problems connecting to remote console -all problems-

the system cannot resolve the dns and ip address when not connected to internet or local network.

a working fix to the problem - also fixes Q1

On the host computer you need to access the network properties for vmnet1.

find Internet protocol tcp/ip (v4) click properties

in the window use following DNS server address enter the static ip address displayed or enter the ip address 127.0.0.1

hit ok

hit ok again

done ! restart the machine to verify working

3. firefox and other browsers

some problems can be encounted due to certificates and securty warnings. 

install the certificates on the browers to access Vmware.

4. Network questions

vmware networks shows only have host , bridge and nat networks.

The networks are not setup you need to start up virtual network editor to setup networks.

to create nic to vmnet connections use the host virtual networking mapping > pick a vm net, click on the triangle an pick a nic card thats installed. press apply when done.

to create virtual networks use the host virtual adapters this will install a virtual nic router for the vmnet you chosse. press apply when done.

hit ok when the changes are done. best option is to reboot the machine. 

when the restarted - start vm server and the vmnets should show up ready to use.

5. Internet connection

for bridged and host connections - Use ICS ( internet connection services ) or the internet router for the connection ip address. 

6. No network connection 

virtual network editor will show all active network interfaces. if a network interface is not showen the device is turned off or disabled. check you hardware. 

*VMnet 0 

Vmnet 0 automaticaly connects to the first network interface that is active. 

7. laptop users

network problems will happen on laptops due to power and plug and play devices / usb config. 

check if the nic is working before trying to fix network problems.

cable network nics may need to be pluged into a hub/switch to work

wifi connections may be required to have an connection before connecting to vm

wifi nic can be used for private vm useage - not connected to a network.

8. check power saving options

verifiy connection with virtual network editor.

9. data stores

data stores are set up to keep the vms etc. 

verify the connection of the media before starting of Vmware. Vm machines will be greyed out in the invertory list if not seen. 

note : do not use the root of the drive as a data store. this cannot be change one in place.

Genral problems

most problem can be traced to the o/s installed. if it works on one vm then is should work on other vms. check you config or read up on the problem. 

And if you do have a problem take a break. there is no point fixing more problems.

위 자료를 봤을때, 왠지 정리가 안된듯한 느낌이었다. 거의 모든 문제가 2번에 해당하는 거었고 아니면 같이 올라가는 아파치 서버에서 문제가 생길때 vmware server 가 실패하는 경우도 있었다. 그럴때, 같이 설치되는 아파치 서버를 다시 시작하거나 해당 vmware 서비스를 다시 시작시키면 해결이 되었다.
